Not only this, but his brilliant acting and beautiful looks won everyone’s heart. Madhubala may have been born in a Muslim family but her faith was more towards Guru Nanak Dev.
Such was his passion for Guru Nanak Dev that till the last moment the book of “Japuji Sahib” was present in Madhubala’s purse. Madhubala used to read this book every day, which she found very relaxed after reading it. She had only one condition with the filmmakers that she would keep shooting anywhere in the country and the world throughout the year, but she would be present at the Andheri Gurdwara in Mumbai on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji. She used to get this condition written in the agreement with the producer as well.
Despite Madhubala being Islamic, her passion for Guru Nanak Dev was revealed by the music director of that era, S Mahendra. When S Mahendra was asked about this, he said, “One day when the preparations for the next shot were going on on the set of a film. During this free time Madhubala took out a small book from her purse and took her Covering her head with a dupatta, she started reading it. After sometime she was called for the scene shoot, she left her purse and that book for me to give the shot. When I opened the book and saw it was Japuji Sahib written in Persian language .
After getting free from the same shooting, when Mahendra asked Madhubala about this, Madhubala said, “Despite everything, I was completely broken inside. Then one day one of my acquaintances took me to the gurudwara in Andheri. Darshan. After that, when I told the granthi there about my problem, he suggested to recite Japuji Sahib daily. Since I do not know Gurmukhi, so I got this book printed in Persian language. Since then I read it everyday. The same After reading this, there is a strange peace and calmness.
The granthi of the Andheri gurudwara says that seven years before her death in 1969, Madhubala had expressed her desire to serve langar on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. She would give a check to the Gurdwara committee for whatever expenses would have been incurred on that day’s langar and this process continued for seven years. After his death, his father took over this service for about six years. Now the situation is that whenever Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday is celebrated, the devotees there say about Madhubala in Ardas that, ‘Hey Patshah, the service of langar-prasad is present on behalf of your daughter Madhubala, she should be taken from her feet. Keep it connected. That is, even though Madhubala has said goodbye to this world, she is still alive in the gurudwara.
