Imphal, June 9 (IANS). Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday said the government is committed to providing quality health services by ensuring the use of skilled human resources, modern infrastructure and advanced medical technology in both the Imphal Valley and the hilly areas.

Flagging off 13 mobile medical units for deployment in the hill districts from the Health Services Directorate at Lamphel, Imphal, the Chief Minister said that as part of the government’s promise to strengthen access to healthcare in the hill districts, these facilities will play an important role in providing essential health services to people living in remote and underserved areas.

In a post on his Facebook account, he said that these 13 mobile medical units will strengthen healthcare delivery in under-served and remote hill districts and ensure that good quality medical services reach every citizen’s doorstep. This initiative ensures the Government’s strong intention to improve public health, increase access to healthcare and create a healthy, strong and disease-free Manipur.

These 13 mobile medical units have been started in the hilly districts of Manipur under ‘Pradhan Mantri Tribal Justice Maha Abhiyan’ and ‘Dharti Aaba Tribal Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’. Their objective is to provide health facilities to the tribal and vulnerable population.

A senior official of the Health and Family Welfare Department said that these mobile medical units will provide a variety of healthcare services, including general OPD consultation, basic diagnostic facilities, distribution of essential medicines and mother-child healthcare services. They will also screen for non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension, provide oral healthcare services, conduct health education and awareness programs and provide referral services for specialized treatment when needed.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Sumant Singh, Director of Health Services Dr. N. were present in the program. Hemant Kumar Singh, Dr. M. Dinesh Singh, State Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur and other senior officials of the Health Services Directorate.
