Kidney is one of the most important organs of our body. Keeping the kidney healthy is very important. Kidney related problems have increased very rapidly in the last years. About 7.9 percent of the population in India suffers from chronic kidney diseases, with kidney stones and urinary tract infections being the most common.
Kidney problems are also called ‘silent diseases’, because these diseases have very few symptoms in the beginning and these diseases can be identified only in the advanced stage. Urologist, Dr Deepak Jain told that when the kidneys are damaged, the residual body fluid starts collecting inside the body, causing swelling in the organs, especially the ankles.
Let us tell you that a person suffering from kidney disease may experience nausea with weakness and if not treated on time, the condition may worsen. If the condition worsens, the kidney can stop working, which can also be fatal.
Some common causes of kidney damage are:
- Inadequate blood flow to the kidney.
- Collecting urine
- Internal or external damage to the kidney.
- Stone formation.
- dehydration, which breaks down muscle tissue
- prostate enlargement
- autoimmune diseases
- sepsis infection
What are the symptoms of kidney failure?
According to Dr Deepak, it is impossible to completely avoid kidney damage as its symptoms are not easy to identify, but still one can be alert to the risks. The most common symptom of kidney damage is frequent and severe back pain.
Other symptoms indicating kidney disease:
- blood in urine
- foam
- burning when urinating
- frequent fever or nausea
- loss of appetite
- frequent cramping
- Vomiting
- frequent urination
- difficulty falling asleep
- high blood pressure
What is the treatment for kidney failure?
Dr Deepak Jain told that kidney disease can happen to anyone and there is no definite pattern, but still there are many treatment options available depending on the type of case. The aim of these treatments is to identify the symptoms in time, reduce the rate of progression of the disease, and minimize its damages. With proper treatment it is possible to identify kidney damage at the right time and start the right treatment. However, to avoid kidney disease, one must follow a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet.
According to Dr Jain, due to timely identification of the causes of kidney disease and treating them at the right time, kidney damage can be avoided. But if the kidney is completely damaged, some common treatment options for kidney damage include:
Dialysis: When the kidneys stop working, the waste or excess fluid is removed from the body with the help of a dialysis machine.
Kidney transplant: In this procedure, the kidney given by the donor is implanted in the patient’s body. Prior to this surgery, several procedures are performed to ensure that the patient’s body does not reject the new kidney.
