A second year BDS student of a private university in Greater Noida allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room on Friday.
On the basis of the written complaint filed by the student’s family, two employees of the university were detained in relation to the case. On receiving the information, the police of the Knowledge Park police station reached the spot, conducted preliminary inquiry and sent the body for postmortem after completing the necessary formalities.
Forensic experts and senior police officers also inspected the scene.
Giving information about the incident, Greater Noida’s ADCP Sudhir Kumar said, “On July 18, the Knowledge Park police station received information that a student committed suicide by hanging himself in a hostel in Sharda University. Police reached the spot and reached the spot. The family has also reached the spot. Based on their complaint, an FIR has been registered in the relevant sections. Two accused have been taken into custody for questioning.
The incident caused resentment among the victim’s family and university students and protested against the Sharda University administration. However, the police officers intervened and pacified the situation through negotiations. Law and order has been restored at the scene.
ADCP Sudhir Kumar said, “Students were angry about Sharda University administration. They have been pacified. The situation is under control. Further action is being taken.”
Apart from this, a family member protesting outside the university campus demanding justice for the victim said, “I want justice for my daughter, whether you call PM or CM. I have been sitting here since last night, and until justice is found, I am not going to leave from here.”
Making serious allegations against the local police, he said, “The police lathi -charged all the members of our family.” Meanwhile, another family member who described themselves as the victim’s brother, alleged that her sister was harassed by the faculty members, due to which she took the step.
“A week ago, a teacher accused my sister of fake signature of professors on her assignment. After this, my father came to the university and spoke to the administration, where she (father) was assured that her daughter would not be targeted. But despite this, the teacher made fun of her saying that she is an expert in signing ‘and threatened to fail her.
