ATM robbing gang
The Odisha Commissionerate Police on Sunday busted an organized ATM robbery gang. Two accused have been arrested after an encounter between police and criminals in Kasura area of Baragada police station area of Bhubaneswar. An accused was shot during the encounter, who has been admitted to the hospital.
Police had received information that some criminals were carrying out incidents of ATM robbery in the city. When the police tried to catch the accused, they tried to escape. Meanwhile, there was a firing between the police and the criminals. In this encounter, one accused Deepak Kumar, who is a resident of Nawada district of Bihar, was injured. The police shot in his left leg, after which he was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The accused are from Bihar and Jharkhand
Apart from Deepak Kumar, the police have arrested another accused Abhishek Kumar Singh, who is a resident of Chatra district of Jharkhand. According to the police commissioner, the gang was involved in two cases in Bihar, one in Jharkhand and four in Odisha. They have two cases registered in Puri and Bhubaneswar in Odisha.
Weapons recovered from accused
Police have recovered a domestic 7.65 mm-cm-automatic pistol, a live cartridge, two empty cartridges, a white Tata Harrier car, ₹ 12,000 cash, three mobile phones, 12 different customers’ ATM cards, a knife and other objectionable items from the accused.
Used to loot with glue
This gang used to tamper with ATM machines in a very vicious manner. It can be clearly seen in the CCTV video that these criminals used to put glue in the ATM card slot, due to which the customer’s card was stuck in it. After this, these people used to paste a fake mobile number near the ATM, which was shown as the helpline number of the bank. When a customer used to call that number after the card was stuck, the accused would have cleverly obtained his ATM PIN and other banking information. Later, these people used to withdraw the card with the help of a knife and withdraw money from the customer’s account.
Police investigation continues
The Bhubaneswar police have exposed a large crime network by catching this gang. The gang had carried out incidents of ATM robbery in many states. The police is now further investigating which other members of this gang are involved in this.
