Donald Trump is 'economic selfish'? PM Modi hit back on America

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday targeted the tariff imposed by former US President Donald Trump and said that when the world is struggling with the challenges created by “economic selfishness”, India is doing far better than expected.

Trump has imposed 50 percent tariff on Indian goods under the US’s ‘Make America Great Again’ policy.

Addressing the inaugural session of Semicon India 2025 in Delhi, PM Modi said, “Once again, India has performed better with every hope, every assessment. When there are concerns about the world’s economy, challenges have arisen from economic selfishness, in such an environment, India has achieved 7.8 percent growth rate.”

According to official data, India’s GDP has increased at a speed of 7.8 percent in the April-June quarter, the highest growth among the last five quarters. This growth has been recorded when American tariffs have been implemented.

Modi said that the world trusts India and is ready to make the future of the semiconductor with India.
