ED takes major action in Madhya Pradesh, raids the locations of Saurabh Sharma and close associates

ED Action: ईडी ने मध्य प्रदेश में की बड़ी कार्रवाई, सौरभ शर्मा और करीबी सहयोगियों के ठिकानों पर छापेमारी

New Delhi. Taking major action in the corruption case, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at many places in Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur districts of Madhya Pradesh. This action was taken in connection with the cases registered against retired constable Saurabh Sharma and his close associates Chetan Singh Gaur, Sharad Jaiswal and Rohit Tiwari.

Investigation under Prevention of Corruption Act

The ED initiated the investigation on the basis of a case registered by Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta against Saurabh Sharma under sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended 2018).

Properties acquired in multiple names

Investigation revealed that Saurabh Sharma acquired property worth crores of rupees in the name of his family and close friends. He bought properties in the name of many companies and firms, whose directors were very close to him.

Big revelation in raids at 8 locations

A total of 8 places were raided in Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur. During this period many shocking revelations were made. FD worth more than Rs 6 crore was found in the name of Chetan Singh Gaur. Bank balance of more than Rs 4 crore was found in the name of Saurabh Sharma’s family members and companies. Documents related to immovable properties worth more than Rs 23 crore were recovered.

use of income earned through corruption

Investigation revealed that these properties were purchased using the income earned through corruption while working in the Transport Department.

action was taken earlier also

Earlier, the Income Tax Department had seized 52 kg of gold biscuits and Rs 11 crore in cash from the vehicle of Chetan Singh Gaur. Chetan Singh Gaur is considered a close associate of Saurabh Sharma.
