High alert in Punjab and Rajasthan after 'Operation Sindoor'; Policemen holiday canceled, school closed

In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, India carried out an accurate missile attack on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor. Since this operation, Punjab and Rajasthan, who shared the border with the neighboring country, have come completely into alert mode.

Punjab’s border is 532 km long with Pakistan, while in Rajasthan the border is about 1,070 km long. Explain that the Punjab Police has canceled the holidays of all its personnel, while the state government has closed schools in six border districts. Officials gave this information on Thursday.

Sources said that the Rajasthan government has also canceled the holidays of all the administrative officers and police personnel posted in the border areas.

Significantly, two weeks of the Pahalgam attack, military attacks were carried out on Wednesday morning under ‘Operation Sindoor’, in which 26 people were killed, most of which were tourists.

The order issued by the DGP office stated that the holidays of all the officers/employees of the Punjab Police have been canceled from 7 May in view of the administrative reasons. It states that, “The holidays should be given only with the approval of the competent authority under special circumstances.”

Amid increasing tension, all schools in six border districts of Punjab – Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran have been closed till further orders.

Punjab Minister Aman Arora said on Wednesday, “Punjab shares a 532 km long border with Pakistan. So the role of the Punjab government becomes very important during any military tension. All the districts near the border have been placed on high alert. The government has also canceled all public programs in view of the current situation.”

He said, “Punjab Police is also fully prepared as the second line of defense. It will be involved with the army in every battle to give a befitting reply to any Pakistani attack.”

As a precaution in Rajasthan, all government and private schools in four border districts – Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Barmer have been closed. Officials said that the administration of these four districts has prepared to deal with any possible emergency.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed the concerned officers to cancel the holidays of all the policemen in view of the increasing tension after ‘Operation Sindoor’. According to reports, Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant and DGP UR Sahu held a review meeting with Divisional Commissioners, Collectors, IGP and SP and directed them to be present in their respective headquarters.

Instructions have been issued to tighten security arrangements across the state.
