The postal service for the US will be temporarily closed from August 25. India has taken this decision due to changes in US custom rules. It has been said by the Indian Postal Department that postal services will remain temporarily suspended until the tariff dispute is resolved with the US.
Let us tell you that till now such items which were low in the price used to reach America without duty fee, but now the rules have changed. According to the order issued by the Donald Trump administration on July 30, the customs exemption on goods up to $ 800 has been abolished. Now whatever goods will be sent to America from August 29, it will have to pay custom duty according to its price. This new rule will be applicable under the International Emergency Economic Power Act (IEEPA).
However, items with gifts up to $ 100 will be exempted from custom duty. People who have already booked postal orders for America can apply for the postal fee refund. The statement issued by the Department of Posts has regretted this inconvenience to the people and said that talks are going on to restore full postal services with the US. Information in this regard will be provided from time to time. The postal department has also informed that a decision will be taken to resume postal service as soon as the instructions are received from CBP-USPS.
