In India, the System Commercial Banks saw an increase of 9.5 percent in the quantity of loans issued in Q1Fy26, which was slightly behind by 10.1 percent increase in deposits.
According to the new data, the credit cost of SCBS increased by 19 BPS in Yoy, and also a source for Q1 said that a general improvement in the gross non-granting asset ratio (GNPA) ratio was observed, which fell from 2.7 percent to 2.3 percent last year.
By GNPA level Q1fy26, 9.5 percent yoy rose to 4.18 lakh crore rupees, with standing recovery, upgradation, and right-offs especially expanded in government sector banks.
The NET NET Non-Growning Asset (NNPA) ratio of SCBS remained a stable, although GNPAS increased by 0.5 percent in every quarter as some banks caused microfinance and unsafe lended slips in some banks.
The credit cost (annual) of SCBS increased by 19 BPS sequentially in Q1Fy26, although for PSBS it declined in Yoy in 0.35 percent, while it increased by 1.02 percent during this period for PVBS.
