Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Champai Soren was placed under house arrest on Sunday to avoid law and order problems in view of protests by tribal organizations against land acquisition for a government health institute. Police gave this information.
Police said his son Babulal Soren and his supporters going to Ranchi have also been detained in a police station.
Ranchi city Deputy Superintendent of Police K.K. V. Raman told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, ‘Champai Soren has been under house arrest as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in view of the protests of tribal organizations. He said that in view of the protests on Sunday, a large number of policemen have been deployed and obstructed at important places.
However, Soren termed the move as undemocratic, saying that the tribals and their protests have been ordered to be under house arrest.
