New Delhi. The proceedings have started to remove Justice Yashwant Verma from the post in the case of burning cash. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Tuesday that a proposal has been received against Justice Verma to impeach a total of 146 members, including BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad and the Leader of the Opposition. Om Birla has formed a three -member committee of Supreme Court Justice Arvind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava and Senior Advocate VB Acharya of Karnataka High Court, while mentioning the allegation on Justice Yashwant Verma.

The petition filed by Justice Yashwant Verma was rejected by the Supreme Court in the past. Justice Yashwant Verma had appealed to cancel the report of the in -house committee of the Supreme Court to investigate the allegations against him. Justice Yashwant Verma said that the investigation committee of three judges on the allegations against him did not follow the law and rule. Justice Yashwant Verma also argued that the committee of judges asked him to prove himself innocent. According to Justice Yashwant Verma, after extinguishing the fire, his daughter and staff did not even see the burnt cash. He also says that this can be a conspiracy. Apart from this, Justice Yashwant Verma had given many more arguments in the Supreme Court, but his petition was rejected by the Supreme Court.

Justice Yashwant Verma was the first judge of the Delhi High Court. The store room of his government residence in Delhi caught fire on the night of 14 March 2025. Delhi Fire Brigade and police personnel and officers arrived to extinguish the fire. Delhi Police officials claimed to watch the burnt cash on the spot after extinguishing the fire and then made a video of it and sent it to the Delhi Police Commissioner. The commissioner sent this video to Chief Justice DK Upadhyay of Delhi High Court and then informed the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna. After which the investigation was sitting against Justice Yashwant Verma. He was transferred to Allahabad High Court.
