On the occasion of Women’s Day, preparations are made to send cards, chocolate, flowers and other gifts to their relatives, friends and associate women. However, very much people are not aware of why and when the International Women’s Day is celebrated.
In fact, in the year 1908, a tradition of celebrating Women’s Day started due to a women’s laborer movement. On this day, 15 thousand women demonstrated in New York city demanding reducing job hours, better salary and some other rights. A year later, the Socialist Party of America declared this day the first National Women’s Day.
In the year 1910, an international conference of working women took place in Copenhagen, which suggested to celebrate this day as International Women’s Day and gradually the day became popular worldwide as International Women’s Day. This day was recognized as International Women’s Day in 1975.
