Indian Railways has taken a new step to ensure safety and better service to passengers. Now it will be easier to identify vendors in trains, as Indian Railways plans to implement QR code based identity cards. This will help passengers get rid of illegal vendors and make their travel experience even safer.
How will this system work?
Now every catering contractor and its vendors will have a QR code based identity card. Passengers can scan this QR code from their smartphones. Through this process they will get the vendor’s name, address, Aadhaar number, and other important information. This is an effective way to ensure security.
Pilot project started
Railway Board has started this Vendor Management System (VMS) as a pilot project in Nagpur Division of Central Railway. Under this project, QR code based identity cards have been issued to 835 vendors-assistants.
Detailed information of vendors
With the help of this QR code, railway officials—like RPF, GRP, TTE and commercial departments—will be able to easily arrest illegal vendors. This includes information like vendor’s photo, date of police verification, health certificate, contract period, etc.
Through this new system, not only will the safety of passengers be ensured, but they will also be able to easily differentiate between genuine and fake vendors. This is an important step taken by Indian Railways.
