Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Date visits to Bangladesh: Controversy over 1971 massacre 'unresolved'

Pakistan Foreign Minister Isaq Rate, which is on a two -day formal visit to Bangladesh, said that one of the three unresolved issues, the 1971 massacre case of Bangladeshi Banglas, has been resolved first twice. However, Bangladesh rejected his claim and said the matter is still “unresolved”.

The rates are currently in Dhaka, and this is a Pakistani Foreign Minister’s first state level tour after 13 years. The government, led by Muhammad Yunus, is allegedly improving relations with Pakistan, despite that there is a history of violence and atrocities by Pakistan’s army during the 1971 independence struggle.

As soon as the rate reached Dhaka, he held continuous meetings with leaders of various political parties of Bangladesh to strengthen bilateral relations. After a meeting with Foreign Affairs advisor Tauheed Hussain at Hotel Sonargaon on Sunday, he spoke about the massacre by the Pakistani Army in 1971.

Dar said, “The issue was first resolved in 1974. The document of that time is historic for both countries. Then (dictator of East Pakistan) General Parvez Musharraf came here and openly resolved the issue. As a result, the issue has been resolved twice, once in 1974 and the second time in the beginning of 2000.”

Bangladesh rejected the rate of rate

However, Bangladesh said that the demand for apology from Islamabad for the atrocities during the war is still “unresolved”. Mohammad Tauheed Hussain said that the issue of apology has not been resolved, but he agreed to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

After the meeting, Hussain told reporters, “We agreed that it is necessary to resolve the pending issues so that they do not become an obstacle in our relationship.” The two sides signed an agreement to deepen trade and economic relations, as well as to increase cultural exchange.

Hussain said that Bangladesh raised “unresolved issues” for apologizing or regreting for 1971, property claims and trapped Pakistani citizens. He said that it would be wrong to expect to solve 54 years old problems in a day.

More than three million people were killed and more than 3 lakh women were raped in the 1971 massacre. Since then, the people of Bangladesh have been continuously demanding apology from Pakistan.

Concern about rate tour for India

India’s eyes are on a rate of Bangladesh at Bangladesh, as Dhaka is working on strengthening relations with the country that killed millions of Bangladeshi Banglas in 1971.

The concern is that the rate also met the leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) of Bangladesh separately, who are known for radical and anti-India stance and which were banned by the earlier governments due to alleged terror relations. A six -member delegation of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) also met to meet the minister of Pakistan.

National Citizen Party (NCP) secretary Akhtar Hussain said, “We tried to present the feelings of the people of Bangladesh. This is an opportunity to improve with earlier hostile relations.”

At the same time, the Awami League of the removed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condemned the rate of rate, saying “Generalization without the recognition of a massacre is a deception.” The party insisted that “history cannot be written again. Justice cannot be dealt with.”
