Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reached Bangladesh, India's eyes rested

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (23 August 2025) as part of an important diplomatic development. Confirming this, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry said that Dar was welcomed by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Mohammad Iqbal Khan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Pakistan, Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider and other officials in Dhaka.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Dar, Chief Advisor of the Interim Administration, Professor Mohammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Advisor Tauheed Hussain and Commerce Advisor S.K. Will meet Bashiruddin. In addition to the entire scope of bilateral cooperation in the conversation, regional and international issues will also be discussed.

The yatra was earlier proposed in May but was postponed by military clashes between India and Pakistan on 7 May. The special thing is that Bangladesh had not hosted any Pakistani Foreign Minister for the last decade. In August 2022, Bilawal Bhutto stayed only for a short time while going to Cambodia at Chittagong Airport.

This visit of Dar is also considered important for India as Bangladesh had appealed to India to stop the activities of the Awami League leaders from a few days ago who are said to be refuge in India after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government. The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said on August 20, “If Bangladeshi citizens living on India’s soil run a campaign against us by opening any kind of political activity or office, then it is a direct insult against the people of Bangladesh and the nation.” India had denied the allegations that its land did not allow political activity against any country.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s relationship with Pakistan was always cold and she accused her opponents of being pro -Pakistan. But after his departure from his power, Pakistan has intensified its diplomatic activities in Dhaka and the Pakistani officials are also active in the social realm of the capital.

Dar’s visit is also considered important in the context of China-Pakistan relations and recent Bangladesh-China-Pakistan tripartite dialogue. In June, diplomats from the three countries met in Kunming. Apart from this, on August 21, Beijing Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Dar organized the sixth round of China-Pakistan strategic dialogue in Islamabad. At the same time, China is also hosting the Bangladeshi Army Chief General Walker-e-Zaman.
