Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Chairman's big decision, resigns on 'moral basis'

Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami resigned from his post on Monday with immediate effect. Dhami’s resignation came at a time when Giani Raghbir Singh, a Jathedar of Akal Takht, strongly condemned SGPC to abolish the services of Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Damdama Sahib.

Dhami said that he is always committed to the Sikh’s highest religious bench Akal Takht. Citing a post of February 13 on Jathedar Raghbir Singh’s ‘Facebook’ at the end of the service of Giani Harpreet Singh, Dhami said that he wrote that he had said that removing Giani Harpreet Singh is “very condemnable” and “unfortunate”.

Addressing media persons in Amritsar, he said, “I take responsibility as” Pradhan “(President of SGPC) and resign from my post on moral grounds.” Dhami also said that he also said that he said that he also said A seven -member committee constituted to monitor the new membership campaign of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has written a letter to Akal Takht Jathedar to free him from his post.

Giani Raghbir Singh wrote a post on ‘Facebook’ on February 13, condemning Harpreet Singh’s services as Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Bathinda. In the post, he had said that the removal of Giani Harpreet Singh is “extremely condemnable” and “unfortunate”, which will harm the independent existence of ‘Takht Sahibs’.

The SGPC sacked the services of Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Takht Shri Damdama Sahib in Bathinda on 10 December. This decision was taken during the meeting of the Executive Committee of SGPC.

The committee accepted the report of a three -member committee constituted to investigate the allegations against Giani Harpreet Singh in the 18 -year -old domestic dispute case.
