Yoga guru Ramdev on Tuesday assured the Delhi High Court that he would immediately remove videos and social media posts related to his alleged “Sherbet Jihad” comment on the Roum Afza of ‘Hamdard’.
His statement came soon after the court’s comment stating that this statement of Ramdev is unfair and it has shaken the conscience of the court.
The lawyer of ‘Hamdard’ told the High Court that while promoting Patanjali’s Gulab Sherbet recently, Ramdev claimed that the money earned from ‘Ruh Afza’ of ‘Hamdard’ was used to build a madrasa and mosque.
Ramdev later defended his comment, saying that he did not name any brand or community.
Justice Amit Bansal, who is hearing the petition of ‘Hamdard National Foundation India’ against Ramdev’s ‘Patanjali Foods Limited’, said, “It has shook the conscience of the court. This is not appropriate. You (Ramdev’s lawyer) seek instructions from your client, otherwise strict orders will be given. ”
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who is representing ‘Hamdard’, said the matter is beyond insult. He said that it is a matter of creating “communal division”.
Rohatgi said, “This is a hate speech. He (Ramdev) says that this is “syrup jihad”. They should be mean by their work. Why are they bothering us? ”
After some time, when the hearing of the case resumed, Ramdev’s lawyer said that he will immediately remove all print or video format advertisements and social media posts related to his controversial statements.
The court recorded the statement of senior advocate Rajiv Nair in the record and asked Ramdev to file an affidavit within five days that he would not release any such statement, advertisement or social media posts regarding the products of competitives in future.
The court has listed the case for hearing on May 1.
