In the early hours of Monday, a tractor trolley carrying pilgrims in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh was hit by a truck, killing 8 people and injuring 43 others. Police said that there are two children among the dead, while the injured and hospitalized 12 people are under 18 years of age.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dinesh Kumar Singh said that the accident occurred near Arnia bypass on the Bulandshahr-Aligarh border at around 2.10 pm, when the canter truck hit the tractor-trolley from behind, causing it to overturned.
Singh said, “There were 61 people in the tractor-trolley, who were going from Rafatpur village in Kasganj district for pilgrimage in Jaharpir in Rajasthan. The victims were taken to other hospitals including private hospitals. Eight people died, while 43 are being treated. Three of the injured are on ventilator.”
Police said 10 passengers were marginally injured. The victims were taken to several hospitals for treatment: 10 were taken to Aligarh Medical College, 10 to Bulandshahr District Hospital and 23 to Kailash Hospital in Khurja.
Police said the bodies of the dead have been sent for post -mortem. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as tractor driver EU Babu (40), Rambeti (65), Chandni (12), Ghaniram (40), Makshi (40), Shivansh (6), Yogesh (50) and Vinod (45). They are all residents of Kasganj district. He said that there are 12 children out of 43 injured.
District Magistrate Shruti along with Senior Superintendent of Police Singh and other senior officials visited the spot between drizzle and later interacted with the patients injured in the hospital.
Police said that the truck registered in Haryana has been confiscated and further legal proceedings have been started.
