new Delhi. In the national capital, 196 people were challaned for driving under the influence of alcohol on the occasion of Holi festival. This information was given by the police on Saturday.
In addition to drunken driving, 1,673 people were prosecuted for driving a motorcycle without a helmet, 275 for triple riding and 25 for dangerously driving a vehicle.
As Shab-e-Barat coincided with Holi festival this year, the police intensified security arrangements in the national capital.
“During the night Shab-e-Barat celebrations, 248 people were challaned for driving two-wheelers without helmets,” police said.
During the night, 39 people were prosecuted for having three people sit on a motorcycle.
Earlier on Friday, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana had said that they have deployed more police personnel in communally sensitive areas and areas with mixed population.
Heavy police force was seen in various sensitive areas on the festival day to prevent any kind of hooliganism which is often done by miscreants under the guise of celebration.
Both the festivals concluded peacefully without any major incident.
