New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested and sacked four of its sub-inspectors for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from a Chandigarh-based businessman who threatened to implicate the businessman in a terror case. The accused officers have been identified as Sumit Gupta, Pradeep Rana, Ankur Kumar, Akash Ahlawat, all posted in the Delhi office.
The CBI arrested them and searched their premises, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents.
“The complainant, running a firm in Chandigarh, had alleged that on May 10, six persons, including four CBI officers, entered his office and threatened to arrest him by implicating him for supporting terrorists and providing money. The accused Forcibly took the complainant in a car and demanded Rs 25 lakh from him.”
The official said that as part of its zero tolerance policy towards corruption and other offences, not only in relation to outsiders, but also in relation to its own officials, the CBI immediately on receipt of the complaint registered a case, in this case Identified and arrested three of its other officers allegedly involved.
“Taking a serious note of this act on the part of these guilty officers, all four have been dismissed from service,” the CBI official said.
The arrested accused are being produced in the competent court of Chandigarh today.
