Even though Rohit Sharma (49 runs on 27 balls) and Ishan Kishan (42 runs on 23 balls) could not prolong their innings, they gave a good start to the team. Romario Shepherd scored 32 runs in one over
Shepherd scored 32 runs with the help of four sixes and two fours in the last over of the innings of Enrique Norcia (65/2). Akshar Patel was the most successful bowler of Delhi. He took 2 wickets for 35 runs. For Mumbai, Rohit and Kishan added 80 runs for the first wicket. The contribution of Rohit was greater in this, who adopted an aggressive attitude from the beginning. The Indian captain started by hitting two fours on Ishant Sharma and then hit sixes on consecutive balls of Jhay Richardson. In the fourth over, he welcomed Akshar Patel with sixes and fours. Rohit also hit three fours on another spinner Lalit Yadav, due to which Mumbai was successful in scoring 75 runs without any loss in the powerplay.
Akshar prevented Rohit from scoring a half-century by bowling him.
However, Akshar did not allow Rohit to complete his half-century by bowling him immediately after this. He hit six fours and three sixes in his innings. Suryakumar Yadav’s return was not memorable. Enrique Norcia did not even allow him to open an account. Suryakumar could play only two balls. He was caught at mid-on while trying to play a lofted drive. Kishan also could not prolong his innings. He hit sixes on the left-arm spinner and Norkia before being caught back by Akshar’s ball. By taking an excellent catch in Akshar, his innings was limited to four fours and two sixes.
David and Hardik added 60 runs for the fifth wicket
Tilak Verma (06) also could not last long, due to which Mumbai’s problems increased. This slowed down the run rate because despite Hardik being at the crease, Delhi bowlers did not allow him to play freely. David brought life to the Mumbai fans by hitting a six on Richardson. Along with Hardik, he scored 17 runs in the last over of Khalil Ahmed. Norkia also scored 16 runs in the next over but it was successful in ending the innings of South African fast bowler Hardik. Hardik hit three fours and a six in his innings before being caught at backward square leg. David and Hardik made a partnership of 60 runs for the fifth wicket. David hit two fours and four sixes in his innings.
