Less Active Indians: India is standing on a time bomb of chronic diseases. Not because we are actually being attacked by diseases but because we are inviting these diseases ourselves. Global health magazine Lancet has released a shocking report saying that about half of the Indians have become so lazy that they do not even do the minimum physical work required for daily work. According to the World Health Organization, at least 150 minutes of physical activity in a week is necessary to stay healthy but half of the Indians do not meet this standard.
About 57 percent of women are very less physically active while 42 percent of men move their bodies very little. Around 2000, this figure was only 22.3 percent of the total adult Indians, which has now increased to 49.4 percent. The biggest disadvantage of this laziness is that by 2030, about 60 percent of Indians will become unfit because they will be suffering from some chronic diseases.
How much exercise is needed
Consultant of Internal Medicine in C K Birla Hospital Gurgaon Dr. Tushar Tayal While talking to News 18, he said that every adult should do aerobic exercise for at least 150 minutes a week. It is not necessary that you go to the gym but walk or jog. Exercises like cycling, swimming, running are very important for us. But nowadays we are not able to do this. We have so many facilities that we do not have to work hard for most of the work. But by not keeping the body physically active, we can be surrounded by many diseases. By not being physically active, the diseases of the body will definitely happen but due to this you will also have to face mental problems. When you always sit, your confidence will decrease. Due to lack of confidence, stress will increase and stress will give rise to many diseases.
Diseases due to lack of activity
Dr. Tushar Tayal told that when you do not do any hard work and sit all day, then the energy obtained from food will not be used up. This energy will start accumulating in the body as fat. This fat will increase obesity. Many diseases will occur automatically due to increasing obesity. Cholesterol will also increase due to not being physically active and it will start accumulating in the blood vessels. This cholesterol will harm the heart. In a way, all this together will invite chronic diseases like diabetes, blood pressure and heart disease. If heart disease occurs, then the risk of stroke and heart attack will increase. On the other hand, if you do less exercise, then the risk of colon and breast cancer increases.
How to get started
Dr. Tushar Tayal says that it is better to exercise for at least half an hour a day. Start with a 10 to 15 minute walk. Do not do too much exercise suddenly on the first day. If you exercise too much in the beginning, then if calcium is already deposited in the blood vessels, it may suddenly burst and this can lead to a risk of heart attack. Therefore, initially walk slowly and comfortably. Then increase its speed and timing after a week. Then focus on speed for a month. By doing this, the body will acquire the capacity to exercise. Try to do exercises that strengthen muscles and bones. Pilates exercise will be very beneficial for this. Yoga is the easiest exercise. This will strengthen both muscle mass and bones, which will be very beneficial at an older age. In this way, if you do not want to invite diseases yourself, then resolve to make your body physically active from now on.
