Boat collides with ship in Singapore (symbolic)
Singapore Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia): A dangerous collision has occurred between a large boat and a fuel supply vessel on the southern coast of Singapore. The boat was quite large and it collided with a huge fuel vessel. It is feared that many gallons of oil may spill into the sea. The existence of aquatic life has also been endangered due to the oil spill in the sea. Now the work of cleaning the spilled oil is being done, which continued on Sunday as well.
It is being told that due to the oil spill, some parts of the southern coastline including the popular resort island of Sentosa have turned black and this has also posed a danger to marine life. A large Dutch-flagged boat hit the Singapore fuel supply vessel ‘Marine Honor’ on Friday. This damaged the cargo tank of Marine Honor and oil spilled into the sea. Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority said in a statement late Saturday night that the oil leak from the ship has been stopped.
Oil spread through sea waves to many islands
The oil spilled from the damaged tanker is being cleaned up. But the rising sea waves have spread the oil to Sentosa and other southern islands. Sentosa is visited by millions of tourists each year and is home to one of Singapore’s two casinos, a golf course and Southeast Asia’s only Universal Studios theme park. On Sunday, workers were busy cleaning the empty beach of Sentosa. Authorities have deployed 18 boats for this work and installed about 1,500 meters long ‘container boom’ to stop the oil spill. (AP)
