On Sunday, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea will come to receive PM Narendra Modi upon his arrival in the country. This honor of the Indian PM is special because Papua New Guinea usually does not formally welcome any leader who arrives after sunset. But this country in the Indo-Pacific region will make a special exception and give a completely ceremonial welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Will co-chair the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC III Summit) on Monday.
PM Modi will go to Australia from Papua New Guinea
James Marape, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, will chair the summit which will be attended by leaders of 14 countries. FIPIC was launched in 2014 during PM Modi’s visit to Fiji. After Papua New Guinea, PM Modi will visit the Australian city of Sydney at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The Prime Minister will also interact with the Indian community at a special event in Sydney.
‘Little India’ resides in Australia
During this time the Harris Park area in Parramatta, Australia’s second oldest city, will also be renamed ‘Little India’. This will also be announced during the PM’s community event. According to the Australian Government website, Harris Park has a large Indian community. It is a bastion of Indian cuisine and small to medium businesses run by Indians. This is the reason why this area is informally called ‘Little India’.
