New Delhi. Today Narendra Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Preparations have been completed in Rashtrapati Bhavan for the swearing-in ceremony, but do you know that to build this building, a train had to be run till there. For this, a special railway track was laid, which went through Connaught Place and Parliament House. Know here what was the reason for this?
Deepak Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, says that red and sandstones have been used in the construction of Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan and North and South Blocks in Raisina Hills. These stones were brought from Rajasthan. The construction of Parliament began in 1921. At that time there was no New Delhi station. These stones were brought to Raisina Hills from Old Delhi. This way it was taking a lot of time to transport them.
The then officials decided to transport the stones to Raisina Hills by train. For this, it was decided to lay a railway track from Sadar Bazar (the place where Old Delhi trains passed) to Raisina Hills and soon after laying the track, goods train operations were started to the Rashtrapati Bhavan under construction.
The train used to pass through Connaught Place and Parliament House.
This track was built from the present New Delhi station, through Connaught Place to the front of the Parliament House. The train used to go from the front of the Parliament House to Raisina Hills and return from there. After the construction work, it was decided to remove this track. Because this track used to go through Connaught Place. Connaught Place was not built at that time. Its construction also had to be started.
From New Delhi station, a track is going towards the estate entry road and is built up to the outer circle of Connaught Place. This railway track can be seen right next to the Public Relations Office of Northern Railway. Many engines come here and return from the outer wall of Connaught Place.
