After the historic victory in Punjab, Kejriwal’s eyes are now on Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the home states of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Elections are to be held in these two states this year as well. Kejriwal himself has pointed this out. Political experts say that excited by the victory of Punjab, Kejriwal is preparing to give a tough fight to the BJP in these two states.
Social media influencer Dhruv Rathi made a tweet on AAP’s victory. In it he wrote, ‘Since 1995, the Congress has failed to defeat the BJP in Gujarat. Given the current situation, it would probably be better if Congress pulls out of the election and lets AAP fight a one-on-one fight with BJP in the upcoming Gujarat elections.
This tweet of Dhruv was retweeted by Kejriwal. Along with this, Kejriwal also indicated that this time he will give full strength to the BJP, not only in Gujarat but also in Himachal Pradesh.
1. Himachal Pradesh: BJP is defeated in the by-election
Aam Aadmi Party Himachal Pradesh is seeing better prospects for itself. The Bharatiya Janata Party government is here now. In this state with 68 assembly seats, 35 seats are required for majority. In 2017, the BJP formed the government by winning 44 seats, while the Congress was second with 21 seats. Every time there is a tough fight between the Congress and the BJP, in such a situation, the Aam Aadmi Party can become an alternative to these two parties.
Bye-elections were held here in 2021 for three assembly and two Lok Sabha seats. Then the Congress, giving a blow to the BJP, snatched two assembly and one Lok Sabha seat from it. On one the Congress managed to retain its victory. This by-election, held a year before the assembly elections, had given a big message. It was said that the public was angry with the government. At the same time, Congress is also not very strong. Kejriwal can take advantage of this.
2. Gujarat: Toughest target, but ready to fight
The Bharatiya Janata Party government is here for 27 years. Narendra Modi has been the Chief Minister for three consecutive terms. The popularity of Modi in Gujarat can be gauged from this. When Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Amit Shah was his closest friend to the state Home Minister. Now Modi is the Prime Minister, while Amit Shah is the Home Minister. Shah now contests the Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar. He had secured 8.88 lakh votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha. In Gujarat, the pair of Modi and Shah is considered very strong. This target will be difficult for Kejriwal in Modi-Shah’s home state, but he can be a strong alternative to the Congress.
