Baghpat. The half-burnt body of a 28-year-old woman was found inside a house in Tikri town of Doghat police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district. The husband of the woman accused in the case was arrested on Friday.
The investigation revealed that Preeti was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, after which she sprinkled petrol on the woman’s body to destroy the evidence and set the case on fire.
Koshlendra Singh, station in-charge of Doghat police station said that the accused lives in Sianand Gautam Budh Nagar and works in a factory there. He married Preeti nine years ago.
On March 17, Sianand claimed that his wife had committed suicide by setting herself on fire.
However, the postmortem report revealed that the woman did not die of burns, but of strangulation.
The SHO said that the accused was repeatedly questioned by the police and he confessed to the murder.
Sianand said that there used to be family strife between the wife and her every day. In which he made a plan and from there came to his village Tikri with wife and daughter. On the night of March 17, there was an altercation between husband and wife. Due to which he strangled his wife to death at around five o’clock on Friday morning and also set her on fire by sprinkling petrol on her.
Singh said that a preliminary case of murder has been registered against Sianand and Sianand has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
