New Delhi. A three-match T20 series is to be played between India and Afghanistan from January 11. Unfortunately, just before this series, Afghanistan has suffered a big blow as their star player Rashid Khan will not be able to play the entire series due to injury. Rashid had earlier been battling the injury with hopes of recovery ahead of the series, but he is yet to regain full fitness.
According to reports, Rashid recently underwent surgery and has not fully recovered. Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran confirmed Rashid’s absence, saying that he is not fit to play the series. Rashid is still in the fitness phase. Zadran said that apart from Rashid, there are only a few players in the team whom he can trust. Rashid was not appointed captain during the T20 squad announcement, which was earlier considered by the management. The bowling attack in the Afghan team includes Noor Ahmed, Naveen-ul-Haq, Farid Ahmed Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqui, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and Mohammad Saleem. Mujeeb has bowled well on several occasions while Naveen and Noor also have experience. However, it will not be easy for them to pose a challenge to India.
The first match of the T20 series between India and Afghanistan will be held on January 11 in Mohali, followed by Indore on January 14. The final match of this series is to be held on January 17 in Bengaluru.
India has appointed Rohit Sharma as the captain for this series. Along with Rohit, Virat Kohli is also a part of Team India. Rinku Singh, Shivam Dubey and Washington Sundar have also got a place in the team.
India will host this series against Afghanistan and it is expected to be an exciting encounter despite the absence of Rashid Khan in the Afghan team.
