We Indians are adept at keeping our vehicles at heart, cars and bikes are not just a vehicle for us but a part of our family. Today we are going to tell you one such story. There is no doubt in the fact that it is very rare that our destiny favors us to get back what we have lost. Something similar happened in our today’s story, where a person united day and night to find his 25 year old bullet.
When did the story of Bullet start, know the words of his son
Actually, according to a person living in rural area of Karnataka, his father had bought Royal Enfield Bullet in 1971. Which was the first vehicle of his life. He spent more than half of his 40-year banking career using the Bullet for travel. This is exactly 50 years ago today. Papa and his friend posing with a bullet. This bullet of the MYH 1731 number plate is visible in the only picture of that time.
He told that two decades later in the year 1991, Dad bought his first car – the Premier Padmini Economy. After which his office gave him a MM 540 and later an ambassador car to drive. His father was transferred to Manipal in the mid-90s and the Bullet was rarely used, as his primary vehicle now was the Ambassador. A colleague of Dad’s knew about our Bullets and talked to Dad to buy Bullets.
Since it was Dad’s first motorcycle, and he was not ready to sell it at all. The bullet always stood at the covered area. At the same time, father’s friends used to talk constantly about buying the Bullet. So dad agreed to sell the bullet to his colleague with the condition that if he ever sold it to someone else, he would give it back to my dad.
At that time, I was studying in 5th standard and I had no idea how the sale of this bullet would affect my life. A few months later, Dad’s friends came to our house aboard the Bullet because they wanted to show us the new Bullet and yes, it was glowing in black! This incident was deeply ingrained in my mind. Years passed, we left Manipal and settled in Bangalore.
Dad retired from his service and at that time I was pursuing my graduation. I was wondering where the bullet is at the moment. In the year 1997, Dad bought the second two wheeler of his life – Bajaj Chetak! At the same time, in the next few years, many vehicles came and went in our lives. But Premiere Padmini and Bajaj Chetak are with us till date.
How the journey of finding the bullet started
Being a classic automobile enthusiast, I was very much looking forward to finding the Bullet, and looking forward to bringing the Bullet back home. Since the bullet was sold in Manipal. So I also went to Manipal/Udupi and asked some garages nearby if they could locate my father’s bullet by knowing about the registration number of the bullet. The chances were slim though. I also checked into some bullet enthusiasts and bullet groups in FB. But till now the bullet could not be traced.

It is February 2021, I was searching for the details of this bullet in the transport app, I saw that the insurance details of the bullet was updated, and it was valid till September 2021. The bullet was registered with Mysore to someone from Mandya. He then contacted a well-known RTO agent after getting the complete details of the bullet in the transport app, and after a long process, he reached the owner of the bullet.
Since it was a stolen bullet, the present owner told that this bullet was confiscated, and was parked in Hassan police station, In 2015, the police department auctioned all the seized vehicles. In which this bullet was sold for Rs 1800 to a person living near Mysore, and he sold it to the present owner, who lives in a town called T Narasipura. So now it was time to bring the bullet back home. After a million attempts, the bullet came back home, and father was very happy to see it.
