Even before the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the political upheaval regarding the alliance is intensifying. The upcoming election this time is being considered special for the Yadav family. It is being said that this time Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family can come together again as before. Amidst these speculations, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party President Shivpal Singh Yadav has asked the Samajwadi Party to consider an alliance soon.
Coalition pressure on SP
Shivpal Yadav has now put forward the condition and said that “I have told Akhilesh Yadav that if we give tickets to our people respectfully, then we will form an alliance. On the matter of alliance, first we will talk with Samajwadi Party and then we will talk with other parties. This statement of Shivpal Singh Yadav shows his desperation to forge an alliance with the SP. Even though Shivpal Yadav has said to keep the condition, but he has been repeating the same thing for the last two years. Shivpal Yadav himself said, “I have been telling Akhilesh for the last two years to form an alliance and merge if we want. Whatever our right is decided by the leader or the public decides, we will accept it. We have been telling Akhilesh for two years. I want to talk to us, come sit and talk, haven’t talked yet.
Despite repeated requests by Shivpal Yadav, there is no specific response from Akhilesh Yadav. It seems that Akhilesh’s cold attitude is now stinging Shivpal Yadav, he wants to convince SP in some way, but is unable to say anything openly. Now the questions arise that what happened that Shivpal Yadav wants to join the same party again, from which he had separated due to insult?
When Shivpal had formed a new party
Let us inform that even before the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, news of a rift in the Samajwadi Party had started coming to the fore. The Samajwadi Party was then divided into two camps. One camp was of former Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, and the other was of Akhilesh Yadav. At that time the supporters and workers of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his younger brother Shivpal Singh Yadav were on one side and Chief Minister Akhilesh and his supporters on the other. Alam was that the battle of Ram Gopal, Azam Khan, Akhilesh vs Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shivpal Singh and Amar Singh was clearly visible in public. Due to this discord, the existence of the Samajwadi Party was under threat even before the assembly elections. However, Akhilesh Yadav won in this fight, while Mulayam Singh Yadav and his younger brother Shivpal Yadav lost. Akhilesh Yadav won the party’s battle, but lost the seat of Uttar Pradesh.
After this, angry over not getting a respectable post in the Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Yadav separated from the SP and formed the Progressive Samajwadi Party in the year 2018. Then Shivpal Yadav while targeting the SP said that ‘There are only sycophants going on. Our party will stay away from sycophants and sycophants. Any worker can directly express his point of view. When Shivpal Yadav formed the new party, it was being said that he would put the existence of SP in danger.
Shivpal’s hopes were dashed
In fact, claims were being made that the formation of a new party by Shivpal would split the support base of the Samajwadi Party and Shivpal Singh Yadav’s new party would harm the Samajwadi Party at every step. There was another reason behind this happening, that Shivpal Yadav has been an old leader of the Samajwadi Party and he had a tremendous hold in the Samajwadi Party as well as the mass base, but even after his separation, on the support of the Samajwadi Party. No significant effect was observed. Shivpal Yadav felt that the leaders and workers who were angry or neglected by the SP would come with him, due to which he would further weaken the SP. On the contrary, angry leaders of BJP, BSP and Congress started joining SP.
Trying to save political relevance
Shivpal Yadav’s party could not win even a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections, and after these elections, Shivpal’s bitterness for Akhilesh started decreasing. Akhilesh Yadav had also said in June this year that the SP would take Shivpal’s party along and they would fight the elections together. Even after this statement, the uncle and nephew have not been able to come together officially, the reason is probably the conditions of Shivpal Yadav, which Akhilesh is not giving any respect.
Today the situation is such that Shivpal Yadav is losing political relevance. Now they neither have the support of strong workers, nor the mass base is left. In such a situation, Shivpal Yadav is repeatedly persuading Akhilesh Yadav for an alliance.
However, in the UP Panchayat elections this year, the uncle-nephew duo did a great job. Samajwadi Party and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia contested the district panchayat election in Etawah, due to which BJP had to face defeat. Despite this, Akhilesh Yadav did not shake hands with his uncle, which once again failed Shivpal’s efforts. Now when the assembly elections are approaching, Shivpal Yadav is again pressurizing the SP to form an alliance.
