If TMC has become a headache for any party, then it is the oldest party in the country, Congress. After breaking the Congress in Goa and Tripura, Mamata Banerjee’s party has now moved to the Congress-ruled Punjab.
The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday forged an alliance with the Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Party (JJJK) in Punjab. TMC and JJJK have announced to contest all the 117 seats in Punjab.
There has also been talk about the sharing of seats between the two parties. National President of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Party Dr Baljit Singh Aulakh announced that ‘JJJK will contest 87 seats while TMC will contest on 30 seats’. During this, TMC state president Manjit Singh was also present on the stage.
TMC state president Manjit Singh said about the election campaign in Punjab, “I am meeting Mamata ji on 15th December. After that she will tell us her schedule. It is clear from this that Mamta Banerjee herself is going to enter the fray for the election campaign.
Along with this, the names of 22 candidates have also been announced for the alliance.
Let us inform that at present, Akali Dal, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and BJP are in the electoral fray in Punjab. Now the entry of TMC has emerged as another option for the people of Punjab.
TMC can also rope in disgruntled leaders of other parties to strengthen its hold in Punjab. First the Congress is battling with internal strife.
If Mamta Banerjee’s party is successful in getting even 1-2 percent of the votes in the assembly elections, then it can create problems for the Congress. It will be interesting to see how TMC’s entry is going to make an impact in the Punjab Assembly elections.
