Telecom company Bharti Airtel has announced the induction of former cabinet secretary PK Sinha and former PwC India chief Shyamal Mukherjee as independent directors on the board of directors. This information was given in a statement issued by the company on Tuesday.
PK Sinha has been serving as the Cabinet Secretary for more than four years. He has also held important responsibilities in the Prime Minister’s Office and he retired in March 2021. While Shyamal Mukherjee was the chairman of PwC India, he was instrumental in preparing it for the challenges ahead. He has been a Senior Partner at PwC India.
DK Mittal will be the principal independent director
A statement from Airtel said that Chief Independent Director Manish Kejriwal will retire on September 25 on completion of his second term. After the retirement of Manish Kejriwal, DK Mittal will be appointed as the principal independent director with effect from September 26. Shishir Priyadarshi will step down from the board from October 31 to make time for his other professional commitments.
In the information sent to the stock exchanges in Airtel, it has been said that the approval of shareholders will be required for the appointment of PK Sinha and Shyamal Mukherjee as independent directors on the board of directors. The approval of the shareholders will have to be taken in the upcoming annual general meeting of the company.
