new Delhi. After the film ‘The Kashmir Files’, the issue of Kashmiri Pandits has become a topic of much discussion. A Kashmiri Pandit living in Ghaziabad lost everything during that time, but if nothing was left, it was Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta written in Urdu. According to the 70-year-old Maharaja Krishna Kaul, his soul resides in this Gita.
After the atrocities in 1990, he and his six family members, apart from many other Kashmiri Pandits, were forced to leave everything behind. Presently he is living in Rajendra Nagar of Ghaziabad district. Maharaj Krishna Kaul becomes very emotional remembering that time and tells how his land property was left behind and if he was able to bring something with him, it was Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta written in Urdu.
He also mentions that during that time 10 -10 families in a truck ran for their lives and got out of those situations. Krishna Kaul was given this Gita by his maternal uncle in 1966, at that time he must have been about 10 years old, he started reading Gita since then.
He got into the habit of reading Gita such that he started reading it in the morning and evening. Maharaj Krishna Kaul told that, he did his early studies in Srinagar and did his college education from Kashmir University. He also knows Urdu a lot.
Said, at the time when there was an atmosphere of fear in Kashmir, during that time I was doing a job.
My life resides in this Gita, I cannot live without it. Wherever it is, there I will be. So I managed to get out of there with just this one. It was written by Khwaja Dil Mohammad Sahab in Lahore. There is no satisfaction in reading English as much as the clear pronunciations given in this Gita.
He told that, at the time of migration, everything was left behind me, three rooms, orchards, rice fields, gold and jewelry etc. I thought it appropriate to carry only the Gita written in Urdu at that time, because I could not live without it.
There are many other people like Maharaj Krishna Kaul who ran away from their homes during that time.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the data of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir says that 44684 Kashmiri displaced families are registered in the office of Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Displaced) Jammu.
