Washington: Amid the ongoing tension with China, America has come forward to help Taiwan. US President Joe Biden’s administration has approved the sale of new weapons worth US$300 million to Taiwan. Not only this, America will also send hundreds of armed drones, missile equipment and related equipment to Taiwan. This information has been given in a statement issued by the US State Department.
What did the US State Department say?
The weapons approved for sale by the US State Department include 291 Altius-600M systems which are unmanned aerial vehicles or drones. These weapons also include 720 Switchblade drones. The State Department said in a statement that this sale “serves US national, economic and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continued efforts to modernize its armed forces and maintain defensive capabilities.” According to the statement, it will “help improve the recipient’s security and maintain political stability, military balance and economic progress in the region.”
There is tension between America and China
The US’ approval to sell arms to Taiwan has come at a time when tensions between the US and China are at their peak. China considers Taiwan as its part and says that even if it has to use force to control Taiwan, it will not back down from it. China’s tension is going to increase due to the US supplying arms to Taiwan. (AP)
