US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller
Washington: Pakistan is a stronghold of terrorists and the relations between India and Pakistan are well known. India has been saying clearly that there can be no dialogue in an atmosphere of terror. But now a big statement has been made by the US regarding the relations between India and Pakistan. The US has said that it supports direct dialogue between India and Pakistan. The pace, scope and framework of the dialogue should be decided by both the countries.
The US supports
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, in response to a question in his daily press conference on Thursday, said that the US values its important relations with both India and Pakistan. He said, “As we said, we support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and its pace, scope and framework should be determined by them, not us.”
What is America’s stance on terrorism?
Responding to another question, Miller said the US and Pakistan have a shared interest in combating threats to regional security. “We are engaged with Pakistan on security issues through a high-level counter-terrorism dialogue, including several counter-terrorism capacity building programs,” he said. “We have been communicating regularly with Pakistani leaders on the campaign against terrorism, and we will continue to discuss regional security in detail through our annual counter-terrorism dialogue and other bilateral consultations,” Miller said.
How are India-Pak relations
It is worth noting that India and Pakistan have a long history of tense relations, the main reason for which is the Kashmir issue as well as Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. In 2019, Pakistan downgraded its relationship with India after India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
