Amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, the fear of opening a new front of war in the Red Sea area is increasing. In fact, Yemen’s Houthi rebels are continuously carrying out missile and drone attacks on ships traveling through this sea route. In response to this, many countries including America and Britain have jointly attacked the positions of Houthis. However, meanwhile, a missile from Houthi rebels has targeted the American ship. After this incident, there is a possibility of further outbreak of this war.
missile hits the ship
Houthi rebels attacked a US-owned and operated cargo ship with an anti-ship ballistic missile on Monday, US Central Command announced. The attack on the ship named Gibraltar Eagle is the first incident in which the Houthis have directly attacked a US-owned ship and the missile has hit the ship. Due to this incident, it is believed that America can launch a major attack on Houthi rebels.
How much damage was caused?
The Gibraltar Eagle, which is owned and operated by US-based Eagle Bulk, was hit by a Houthi missile, US Central Command said. However, the missile did not cause significant damage to the ship. All sailors on board the ship have been confirmed safe. The ship’s owner company also said that their ship, which was carrying a cargo of steel products about 100 miles away in the Gulf of Aden, was hit by an unknown projectile.
America-Britain had attacked
Earlier, after carrying out the first air strike on Houthi positions, the US Air Force had said that it had attacked more than 60 targets in 16 locations used by Houthi in Yemen. America and Britain have fired missiles at Yemen’s capital Sanaa and Al-Hudaydah. Both these cities are considered strongholds of Houthis in the Red Sea port area. Houthi officials have warned Britain and the United States in retaliation. Houthi rebels have also warned America and Britain that they ‘will have to pay a heavy price’.
