In the midst of increasing tension with China, ensuring maritime security has become very important for many countries including India. Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar on Wednesday said it is almost impossible for any one country to ensure maritime security in the current context. He further said that like-minded countries should join hands to tackle the emerging challenges.
Advocating a collaborative approach to meet the challenges, Admiral R Hari Kumar said, “We are in a competitive present and heading towards an uncertain future.” The Navy Chief was speaking at an interactive session at the Raisina Dialogue, which was attended by military officers from the US, Japan and many more countries.
US Indo-Pacific Command Commander Admiral John Aquilino said the friendship between China and Russia knows no bounds, which is a matter of great concern as it could have security implications. The US commander said that NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is increasing its strength in view of Russian actions against Ukraine, and suggested that a similar model could be created for the Indo-Pacific.
Admiral Aquilino said like-minded countries should use all forms of technology and national power to collectively tackle security challenges. Describing the Russian attack on Ukraine as the most dangerous in his lifetime, he said, “We need to prepare quickly.” The commander said that the countries of the Indo-Pacific need to work together to deal with coercion.
