Bengaluru. Bengaluru Police has summoned BJP president JP Nadda and party’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya in connection with a social media post allegedly asking members of the SC and ST community not to vote for a particular candidate. Officials said on Wednesday that he has been asked to join the investigation at the High Grounds police station here. It has been said in the police summons that for the purpose of investigation of that case, you are directed to appear before the investigating officer at High Grounds Police Station at 11 am within seven days of receipt of this notice.
On May 5, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had filed a complaint with the Election Commission and the police alleging violation of the model code of conduct through social media. After this, an FIR was registered against Nadda, Malviya and BJP Karnataka unit chief BY Vijayendra in connection with a social media post. After this this step has been taken. A senior police officer said he has been booked under sections of the Representation of the People Act and section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes).
In its complaint, KPCC cited a video uploaded on social media platform ‘X’ by the official account of Karnataka state BJP. In which it was alleged that it was run by BJP’s social media in-charge Malviya on the instructions of Nadda and State President Vijayendra. A video posted on social media by Karnataka BJP on May 4 shows animated characters of (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi and (Chief Minister) Siddaramaiah.
In this clip, SC, ST and OBC communities are shown as eggs kept in a nest. It also showed Rahul Gandhi suggesting to place a big egg labeled as Muslim community. It was presented as if money was being given to the chicken representing the Muslim community, which then excluded the SC, ST and OBC communities. According to the police, this work of the accused is deliberately instigating riots and promoting enmity between different religions. The complaint alleges that this is detrimental to maintaining harmony by intimidating members of the SC/ST community into not voting for a particular candidate and creating animosity against members of the SC/ST community.
