New Delhi, April 26 (IANS)| Tech giant Apple has registered a major milestone in India with over one million iPhone shipments (sales) in the first quarter of 2021. The company has seen excellent performance during the first three months of this year.
According to preliminary estimates by market intelligence company CyberMedia Research (CMR), iPhone 11 and XR accounted for 67 percent of Apple’s total shipments in the January-March period. Apple iPhone 11 shipments grew 176 percent (y-o-y) in Q1 with increased domestic assembly.
Apple grew its smartphone market share in India to nearly 4 percent for the first time in the festive quarter (4th quarter) of 2020. Despite arriving in October, the iPhone 12 contributed significantly to the company’s rise in the fourth quarter (October-December) in the country. The tech giant has registered over 60 per cent (YoY) growth in its India business for the full year 2020, as against 100 per cent (YoY) growth in the festive quarter. Ram also said that Apple has faced some supply and demand challenges related to the pandemic, but he expects Apple’s growth to continue in the second quarter of 2021.
Apple started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 with the iPhone SE. Currently, Apple is manufacturing some of its most advanced iPhones in India, including the XR, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12.
