The National Board of Wildlife has given the green signal to build another road up to the China border. This road will connect Saser La in Ladakh with Saser Brangsa. An Economic Times report suggests that this road will act as an alternative route to the Daulat Beg Oldie Highway.

This strategically and strategically important road will pass through the Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary. In this 55-hectare sanctuary, a road will be constructed while protecting the wildlife. According to the report, the Wildlife Board has given approval for the road construction on March 25 on the condition that annual compliance report will be submitted.
Delivery will be easier and easier
The approach road is important for all weather tunnel connectivity near Saser La. The new road is near Daulat Beg Oldie which has been one of the main reasons for the ongoing Indo-China border standoff since 2020 which is close to the China border. According to the report, with the construction of the new road, the Indian Army will get another alternative road, which will make it easier to deliver military logistics.
Access to vulnerable areas will increase
Besides easing green norms for border roads, the environment ministry is clearing strategic projects, especially along the India-China border, citing national security. A 30-km road is being developed as an alternative approach to reach the Daulat Beg Oldi area, the Depsang plain and the Karakoram Pass. As of now, only the 255 km long Darbuk-Shyok-DBO road can be used to reach the area which is vulnerable.
