New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may have to go to jail once again in the excise policy case. A Delhi court has reserved its decision on Kejriwal’s plea to extend the interim bail period by one week on health grounds. The court will give its decision on June 5. By then, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor may have to surrender and go back to Tihar Jail.
ED opposes Kejriwal’s bail
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed Kejriwal’s plea for interim bail in the money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. During the hearing before Special Judge Kaveri Baveja, the ED argued that Kejriwal had concealed facts and made false statements about various matters, including his health. The ED also claimed that Kejriwal was active in election campaigning during his interim bail period and suddenly claimed to be unwell.
The court reserved the decision
The ED said Kejriwal misled the public during a press conference on Friday by saying he would surrender voluntarily on June 2, yet he is now seeking an extension on health grounds. The ED argued that if Kejriwal needs any medical examination, it can be done in jail, and if necessary he can be taken to AIIMS or any other hospital.
Health grounds cited in bail plea
Kejriwal’s interim bail plea, which was heard by a Delhi court, cited health reasons for extending his bail for a week. However, the court has reserved its decision on the matter till June 5. As a result, Kejriwal may have to surrender and face imprisonment till the final decision of the court.
