Reigning Olympic and world champion in javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra has been named the representative of the 68-member Indian athletics contingent for the 2023 Asian Games. The much-awaited event is scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China.

The athletics competitions will be held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium from September 29 to October 5, showcasing the extraordinary talents of athletes from across Asia.

India boasts a huge representation, with a total of 655 athletes competing in 39 different sporting disciplines. The athletic contingent, numbering 68, is the largest contingent fielded by India in any sporting event.

The team consists of 35 male and 33 female athletes, representing a balanced representation of gender diversity within the team.

Neeraj Chopra, Avinash Sable, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Jyoti Yaraji among others are expected to shine on the international stage. These accomplished athletes carry a legacy of excellence and are ready to make India proud.

Murali Sreeshankar and Jesswin Aldrin have high hopes in the men’s long jump, while Shaili Singh wants to make a mark in the women’s long jump.

In men’s triple jump, Praveen Chitravel and Abdul La Abubakar are aiming for glory.

The multi-talented Swapna Barman and the formidable Jinson Johnson, the defending champions in the heptathlon and men’s 1500m respectively, will defend their titles in Hangzhou.

The Indian mixed and women’s 4x400m relay teams, champions of the last Asian Games, are set to rock the track with their formidable presence. Meanwhile, there are high expectations from the men’s relay team which achieved an Asian record at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
