Michelle Grattan talks about her experiences with reporting for Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) journalist Sarah Ferguson amid the raging war in Ukraine. Grattan sought to find out the challenges journalists face in coverage of the war. Sarah and her team present an approximate depiction of the conflict and the death toll in Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine.
Sara said, “Many such things don’t matter that much while reporting… can you have food? Can you get a driver? can you get out? Once we get all those things we are ready to move on.
Russian soldiers opened fire even during the evacuation
The Ukrainian government knows how important it is to take its story to the world. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky understands the importance of telling people the story of what is happening in the country. Sarah said that Russian troops also opened fire during the evacuation of stranded people in various cities of Ukraine.
Sarah said that Russian troops did not even spare civilian evacuation routes. So it was very dangerous to evacuate people. It was difficult to even go to that place. The people of Ukraine, trapped in this horrific situation, instead of thinking concretely about the future, are engrossed in daily struggle. People are just wondering what will happen tomorrow if they are saved today. Everyone is living in the shadow of fear.
