India’s campaign in the Badminton Asia Team Championships is over. Indian men’s and women’s teams could not make it to the knockouts after losing their respective matches on Friday in this championship held in Malaysia. The men’s team was beaten 3-2 by three-time champions Indonesia, while the women’s team was beaten 4-1 by Japan.

Earlier, the Indian men’s team had lost 0-5 to Korea and defeated Hong Kong 3-2. He had to beat Indonesia by all means to reach the knockout stage. India finished third in the group behind Indonesia and Korea.
World Championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen defeated Chico Ora de Vardoyo 21-18, 27-25 in the men’s section. Manjunath Mithun defeated Jonathan Ramli 21-12, 15-21, 21-17. In the doubles category, however, two inexperienced pairs and singles player Kiran George had to face defeat. Manjeet Singh and Dinku Singh were defeated by Leo Rowley Carnado and Daniel Martin 21-16, 21-10. After this, Ikhsan Leonardo Emmanuel Rumbe defeated Kiran 21-13, 17-21, 21-10. India’s Hariharan Amsakaroonan and Ruben R Kumar were defeated by Mohammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Moulana 21-10, 21-10.
The women’s team also needed a win to enter the knockouts but were also disappointed. In the women’s section, India’s Aakrishi Kashyap lost to Natsuki Nidaira 13-21, 21-18, 15-21 in the first match. Ashmita Chaliha of Assam defeated Rico Gunji 21-17, 10-21, 21-19. In the doubles category, India lost both the matches and Tara Shah also lost her match. Khushi Gupta and Simran Singhi were defeated by Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato 21-15, 21-16 while Tara was defeated by Hina Akechi 21-12, 21-16.
