New Delhi. Severe heat wave conditions are expected across large parts of India next week as 2024 is projected to emerge as the hottest year on record. The Meteorological Department has warned that ‘heatwave to severe heatwave’ conditions are expected to persist in eastern India and southern peninsular India in the next five days. There is a strong possibility of a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over eastern India in the next two days and over many parts of Maharashtra and southern peninsular India in the next five days.
The IMD has also predicted fresh rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds in the western Himalayan region from April 26 to 29. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail in the plains of northwest India from 26 to 28 April and in the areas adjacent to central India from 26 to 27 April. The World Meteorological Organization recently confirmed that 2023 was the hottest year on record. In which the global average surface temperature reached 1.45 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial baseline.
