Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pushkar Singh Dhami is going to take oath as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand today. Despite contesting from Khatima assembly seat, he is going to become the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for the second time in a row. Governor of Uttarakhand Lt. General Gurmeet Singh will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Dhami at Parade Ground in Dehradun. Let us know some things about Pushkar Singh Dhami, under whose leadership a government has returned to the mountain for the first time.
1. Pushkar Singh Dhami was born in 1975 in Kanalichina village of Pithoragarh district. However, soon after his family moved to Tundi village, where Dhami studied till 5th standard. After this they went to the Nagla Terai Bhabar of Khatima.
2. Dhami graduated in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from Lucknow University. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He has also been a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student organization of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
3. Pushkar Singh Dhami has also been an advisor to Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who became the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in 2001.
4. Dhami has been the president of BJP Yuva Morcha in Uttarakhand twice. In 2002 and 2008, he took charge of the Yuva Morcha.
5 Dhami will be the 13th Chief Minister of the state coming from Kumaon region. Prior to this, two chief ministers were from the Garhwal region.
BJP gets majority for the second time in a row
The BJP has secured a majority in the elections held last month. The BJP won 47 seats in the 70-seat assembly. The Congress was reduced to just 19 seats. For the first time in the history of 21 years, a government has returned in Uttarakhand. However, Dhami lost his seat. He was defeated by Congress candidate Bhuvan Chandra Kapri by 6,579 votes in Khatima.
