Controversy continues in West Bengal over increasing the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) on the border. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has accused Mamata Banerjee of creating a confrontation between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the West Bengal Police after Mamata Banerjee’s remarks regarding the BSF.
What did the governor say?
The Governor of Bengal told news agency ANI, “The Border Security Force (BSF) is working for the security of the country. With regard to their jurisdiction, it was decided that they should work within the 50 km radius.” Then why is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee talking about 15 km range? Why is she creating a tussle between the local police and BSF?
The Governor said that the Central Government had increased the jurisdiction of the BSF to prevent criminal activities, keep a close watch on terrorist activities and control cases like smuggling in the state bordering the international border. The BSF and the Central Armed Police Forces National Security work in collaboration with each other to strengthen the security system in these areas. There is a need to create harmony between them, not fight or confrontation. In this regard, the Governor had also written a letter to Mamta Banerjee.
Mamta government surrounded by creating division in Howrah Municipal Corporation
During this, the Governor of Bengal also targeted Mamta Banerjee for creating a division in Howrah Municipal Corporation. “The West Bengal Assembly has decided to create a division in Howrah Municipal Corporation and I have to take a final decision on it,” he said. I had asked some questions to the state government on November 24 regarding the bill and its answer has not come yet.
What instructions were issued by Mamta Banerjee?
Let us inform that Mamta Banerjee had earlier issued instructions in this regard to the state police on 9 December. In this direction, he had said that the local police should not allow BSF personnel to enter villages outside their jurisdiction without permission.
It is worth noting that earlier in West Bengal, like Punjab and Assam, BSF had the right to take action within a radius of 15 km. It has been increased to 50 km by the central government and Mamata Banerjee is not in support of it.
