Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has expressed grief over the burning of eight people alive in the violence that followed the killing of a TMC leader in Birbhum district of West Bengal. Along with this, the governor has also targeted the Bengal government. Tweeting one of his videos, Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote, ‘The incident of horrific violence and arson indicates that the state is in the hands of a culture of violence and jungle raj. So far 8 people have lost their lives. I have called for a report from the Chief Secretary in this regard. My condolences to the families of the victims. Meanwhile, the Mamata Banerjee government has constituted a committee to investigate the incident.
The governor said, ‘I am deeply pained by this incident. I have called for a report in this regard. There has been no reaction from the state government regarding this statement of the governor. Please inform that 4 miscreants attacked TMC Panchayat leader Bhadu Sheikh by throwing a bomb and fled. After this, a group of TMC leaders started carrying out violence and many houses were torched. In this incident, about 10 people died by burning alive. Although the administration has confirmed the death of only 8 people.
Horrifying violence and arson orgy #Rampurhat #birbhum indicates state is in grip of violence culture and lawlessness. Already eight lives lost.
Have sought urgent update on the incident from Chief Secretary.
My thoughts are with the families of the bereaved. pic.twitter.com/vtI6tRJcBX

It is being said that this incident happened due to the factionalism among the leaders of Trinamool Congress. However, the TMC has denied these allegations and the Birbhum district leader had said that the incident was not due to arson but due to short circuit. News agency ANI quoted fire brigade officials as saying that the bodies of 7 people have been recovered from the same house. These bodies were so badly burnt that it was difficult to identify them. Not only this, it was difficult to know whether the dead were women, men or minors.
