Amid the Lok Sabha elections, Bengaluru Police on Wednesday issued a notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda and BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya over a controversial video posted on Instagram by the party’s Karnataka state unit. Both the BJP leaders have been asked to appear before the Bengaluru Police within seven days. Let us tell you that this notice has been sent to both the leaders in relation to the animated clip for which an FIR has been lodged at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru on Sunday. The clip showed a satirical description of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi distributing money to Muslims while ignoring Dalits, tribals and other backward classes.
Congress leader Ramesh Babu booked Nadda, Malviya and the party’s Karnataka unit under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (statement creating public mischief) and Section 125 (promoting enmity between classes) of the Representation of the People Act. An FIR has been lodged against its chief BY Vijayendra.
Police has sent summons to Nadda and Malviya
The summons addressed to Malviya and Nadda sent by the police said, “You are informed that on May 5, 2024, a complaint was lodged by Ramesh Babu at High Grounds Police Station. In which the content of a video conducted by IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya on the instructions of BJP National President JP Nadda and Karnataka BJP State President BY Vijayendra was uploaded on the official social network of Bharatiya Janata Party @bjp4karnataka on 4 May 2024 during the Model Code of Conduct. was posted on ‘X’ platform, which is considered to incite enmity, hatred and ill-will against members of the SC/ST community.
It further said, “Therefore, an FIR has been registered at High Grounds Police Station under FIR no. 95/2024, under Section 125 of the RP Act and Section 505(2) of the IPC, an investigation is underway. Accordingly, you are directed to appear before the undersigned investigating officer at High Grounds Police Station at 11.00 am within 7 days of receipt of this notice.
Election Commission had instructed X to remove the video
On Tuesday, less than two hours before polling ended in Karnataka, the Election Commission had directed Ax to remove the controversial video. The Election Commission had said that “We have written to the social media platform through the competent authority under the Information Technology Act to remove the video. We are waiting for X’s response. Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Meena said BJP Karnataka chief BY Vijayendra was contacted for comment, however, he was not available.
